Lake Bled, Slovenia
Nestled in the north west of Slovenia, Lake Bled
ranks among the most beautiful alpine resorts. Renowned for its
mild, healing climate and thermal lake water, Bled is the perfect
place to relax and unwind. The island in the middle of the lake has
for centuries been a symbol of Bled. In ancient times, Bled's
ancestors worshipped Živa - the Slavic goddess of love and
fertility - on the island. Take a trip across to the island on a
traditional 'Pletna' (small boat) or visit the Medieval Fortress
that sits ominously overlooking the lake. There are many things to
do in and around Lake Bled. Well worth a visit is Vintgar - a
breathtaking gorge carved out of the rock by the flowing river -
and the 300m long cave under Babji zob. For a culinary treat, be
sure to enjoy the Lake Bled speciality - cream cakes!
