Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast
Surrounded by steep rugged mountain cliffs more
than 700 metres high that drop dramatically into the deep blue
Mediterranean, the Amalfi coastline is an area of outstanding
natural beauty, breathtaking views, colours and unique character.
Sorrento is the ideal base from which to explore the area
overlooking the Bay of Naples, with the mighty Vesuvius volcano as
its backdrop. Daily life is based around the main square, Piazza
Tasso. Fringed with cafes and restaurants, it's the perfect spot
for a morning cappuccino or a plate of spaghetti come lunchtime.
Not far from here you'll find a part of town called the 'Drains' -
a maze of Medieval alleyways laced with tempting trattorias and
artisan shops selling things like bottles of limoncello and inlaid
wood.
