The republic of Montenegro is a land of colourful contrasts, natural beauty and centuries of traditions where ancient stone-built towns in the turquoise waters of the Adriatic are guarded by the lofty peaks of the dramatic Montenegrin Mountains. Budva is the ideal place from which to explore this fascinating country of history & landscapes.
Day 1 – Fly from the UK to Dubrovnik or Podgorica. Upon arrival we will be met by our guide and transferred to our hotel in Monenegro for the next seven nights. Dinner at the hotel.
Day 2 – Today our guide will meet us for our tour of the highlights of Montenegro, a country with a turbulent history, unforgettable natural beauties and contrasts. We visit the old town of Kotor, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its rich maritime traditions. We continue along the Lovcen serpentines to the heart of Montenegro, with panoramic views of Boka Kotorska. After a stop for lunch (not included) in the small village of Bukovica we continue to the old royal capital, Cetinje. Here we visit the museum & home of King Nikola, Cetinje Monastery, which holds precious relics. Leaving Cetinje, we return via the colourful coastal road. Dinner at the hotel.
Day 3 – At leisure to relax and explore the local area. Dinner at the hotel.
Day 4 – We visit the Skadar Lake – the biggest lake on the Balkan Peninsula. Famous for its unique beauty with more than 260 species of birds, traditional fishing villages, islet monasteries and pristine beaches. We sail on the lake taking in the many sites of the picturesque surroundings. Our boat stops on a private beach where fresh fish from the lake will be served for lunch. After lunch we relax before our boat returns us to our coach. Dinner at the hotel.
Day 5 – After breakfast we travel to Dubrovnik where our guide will take us on a sightseeing tour of the Old Town. Dubrovnik is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, regarded as one of the most beautiful cities in the Mediterranean. It’s a treasure of architectural and cultural masterpieces carefully preserved over the centuries. There will be free time to explore this beautiful city on our own before returning to our hotel for dinner.
Day 6 – Today is at leisure with another chance to relax and explore. Dinner at the hotel.
Day 7 – Today we travel inland to beautiful green mountains, rivers and canyons. We pass the capital Podgorica and breath-taking views of the Moraèa River. We will visit the Moraèa Monastery, dating back to the 13th Century. Continuing our journey over the picturesque mountains, we reach the Tara River, also known as ‘The Tear of Europe‘. Its canyon is the second deepest in the world, after Colorado. We’ll also visit the Durmitor National Park with its famous Tara Bridge, a true masterpiece of architecture built before the Second World War. After lunch (not included), we’ll visit the beautiful Black Lake. Dinner at the hotel.
Day 8 – Sadly it is time to depart this beautiful region and return to the airport for our flight back to the UK.
