Belfast is a city with a rich and varied culture, history and heritage; a must visit destination, packed with an array of attractions. As well as historic houses such as Hillsborough Castle, Ballywalter Park and Mount Stewart House, our suggested itinerary includes a guided city tour, a visit to the incredible Titanic Experience, a look behind the scenes of the Royal Opera House and a visit to the unique and spectacular Giant’s Causeway.
Day 1 – Depart local area and travel to Cairnryan for the crossing to Belfast. Continue to hotel. Dinner at the hotel.
Day 2 – A full day exploring the city of Belfast. We will meet a local guide for a tour of the city (part walking and part by coach). We also include a visit to the Titanic Experience – a must see when in Belfast. Located next to the historic site of the ship’s construction, the iconic building and state of the art visitor experience tells the history of Titanic, from conception, construction, launch, maiden voyage and tragic end. Today we will also take a tour of the Grand Opera House, which includes an introduction to the colourful history of the theatre, an insight into the re-development of the Royal Opera House and a look at aspects of current productions. Dinner at the hotel.
Day 3 – Today we visit Mount Stewart House & Gardens and Ballywalter Park. Mount Stewart (NT) is an 18th C. mansion with lavish interiors. The garden reflects a rich tapestry of design and artistry that was the hallmark of Edith, Lady Londonderry. Ballywalter Park was built in the Italian Palazzo style by Sir Charles Lanyon, it has been home to the Dunleath family for over 170 years and has been afforded Grade A * listing due to its exceptional architectural importance. Tours are personally conducted by Lord or Lady Dunleath. Dinner at the hotel.
Day 4 – After breakfast we travel along the stunning scenery of the Antrim coast to our first destination, Giant’s Causeway (NT). Flanked by the wild North Atlantic on one side and a landscape of dramatic cliffs on the other, this scene has inspired artists and caused scientific debate for centuries. This afternoon we head back towards Belfast for a visit to Hillsborough Castle; a working Royal Palace, official residence of the Royal Family in Northern Ireland and home to the Secretary of State. Our tour of the elegant State Rooms, still in use today, includes the majestic Throne Room and graceful Drawing Room. Dinner at the hotel.
Day 5 – Checking out of the hotel after breakfast we commence our return journey back to the port and our homeward journey back to our original pick up points.
