In recent years, Cornwall has emerged as one of the world’s iconic destinations. From the dramatic coastline of the north, to the sheltered bays in the south, visitors simply seeking a break from a hectic world have discovered a fascinating, vibrant culture, first class food and wonderful scenery. This tour will allow you to sample some of the best attractions that Cornwall has to offer, including the exotic Eden Project, the manicured gardens of Lanydrock House, the art of St Ives and Penzance, the history of Pendennis Castle and the unique scenery at St Michaels Mount.
This morning we will driven to the Eden Project near St Austell, with comfort stops en-route. The Eden Project is home to the world’s largest ‘greenhouses’ called biomes, housing a wide variety of vegetation from around the globe. After exploring the Eden Project, we will continue the drive to Falmouth. Dinner at the hotel this evening.
This morning we will head further west to the beautiful seaside town of St Ives. On arrival we will be met and taken on a walking tour to learn about the art in St Ives. We will then visit the Tate Gallery and the Barbara Hepworth Sculpture Garden. The Tate Gallery is home to a permanent collection of art as well as a programme of special exhibitions. The Barbara Hepworth Museum & Garden showcases sculptures in bronze, stone and wood alongside the artist’s paintings, drawings and archive materials. After our visit the rest of the day will be at leisure to explore the quaint seaside town further. Dinner at our hotel this evening.
Today, we will visit St Michael’s Mount*, a small tidal island off Marazion, linked to the town via a man-made causeway. Here we can explore the historic castle and mediaeval church located at the top of the mount and look out at the subtropical terraced garden (which is only open on certain days due to the fragile nature of the plants). From here, we will drive to Penzance to visit Penlee House, Gallery and Gardens, which is the only public gallery in the south-west that specialises in the world famous Newlyn School artists. Dinner at the hotel this evening.
Another day full of beautiful scenery, as we travel up the River Fal by boat. We will then disembark at Trelissick Gardens* where we will spend the next couple of hours. Set on a peninsula overlooking the estuary, the 30 acres of elevated garden here is part of a larger 300 acre estate, which includes a renowned art gallery displaying work by local artists. The coach will then take us to Trebah Garden, a beautiful valley garden with a stunning coastal backdrop. After exploring here, we return to our hotel for dinner.
This morning we will visit Pendennis Castle, which is only a few minutes walk from our hotel. One of Henry V111’s most impressive coastal fortresses, Pendennis Castle has defended since Tudor times. We will then take the coach to Lanhydrock House and Gardens*, a magnificent yet unpretentious late Victorian country house, set amongst extensive gardens. After our visit we continue our return journey.
