The world’s largest surviving water wheel, the great Laxey Wheel is an astonishing feat of Victorian engineering. Also known as ‘Lady Isabella’, the 22 m wheel was built to draw water from the Laxey mines, a depth of 550 m below.

The Manx Museum is home to some of the finest Viking treasures in the British Isles with interactive displays and films and spectacular galleries featuring artworks and museum collections unique to the Isle of Man. From the stone age to the modern era, explore the Viking Gallery for the island’s rich heritage, the Natural History Gallery and the National Art Gallery.

The island’s only historic estate, Milntown House is built in a Gothic revivial style dating back to the 1800s and is surrounded by 15 acres of beautiful gardens and woodlands. Visitors can explore the ornamental gardens, water features and enchanted woodland walks including the Walled Garden and the Jungle Walk.

The Georgian building is the former home of the Manx Parliament and centre of 19th century political life on the Isle of Man. Animated portraits of key members and a simulated model of Mr Speaker bring the debating chamber to life. Join in the debates on law setting and even vote in this participatory experience.

Cregneash was the island’s last stronghold of Manx language and customs, and today is a living demonstration of the traditional crofter’s way of life during the 19^th and early 20^th centuries. With traditional cottages and unique animals, it’s a fascinating insight into Manx culture.

At 2,036 ft, Snaefell is the highest summit on the Isle of Man. Take the winding, 5-mile journey to the summit on the Snaefell Mountain Railway. Opened in 1895, it is the only electric mountain rail in the UK with views of Laxey Valley and the Great Laxey Wheel and crossing the world-famous TT and MGP course. At its summit enjoy spectacular views over England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

This attractive, vintage electric system was opened in the 1890s and its tracks head north and east across the island from Douglas. Still operating with its Victorian and Edwardian tram carriages, it takes in gorgeous sea views and picturesque Manx villages along the 17-mile route.
