Malaga

The Museo Picasso Málaga displays almost 80 years of works by Pablo Picasso, who was born in Málaga in 1881. The collection covers the diverse themes and techniques that Picasso mastered over the years. Visitors are first introduced to the artist through photographs and biographical texts, before collections of his works, dating from between 1894 and 1972, are presented in a thematic and chronological layout.

Housed in a 16th century building, the Museo Carmen Thyssen Málaga displays a collection of 19th century Spanish painting, with a particular focus on Andalusian painting, based on the collection of Spanish art dealer and collector Carmen Cervera, fifth wife of Baron Hans Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza. In addition, the temporary exhibitions display paintings from national and international museums and collections.

This palatial fortification was built by the Hammudid dynasty in the early 11th century. It is the best-preserved alcazaba in Spain and one of the most important military fortifications remaining from the Hispanic-Arabic period. Two of its original three protective walls remain, along with more than 100 towers and three palaces. A pathway weaves through gardens and elaborate fountains, while its hillside location offers beautiful views over the city and sea.

Located in the building of La Tabacalera, a former tobacco factory, Málaga’s Colección del Museo Ruso is a museum dedicated to Russian art and culture. It is linked to The State Russian Museum in Saint Petersburg, Russia, which is home to the world’s largest collection of Russian fine art and is one of the largest art museums in the world. The Colección del Museo Ruso displays exhibitions of classic Russian works, along with more eclectic works related to particular artists and movements.
