Cannes & the Côte d’Azur

Playground of the rich and famous

The Côte d’Azur, as its name suggests, is defined by its glittering turquoise seas – but is equally associated with the glitz and glamour of wealth and fame. Celebrities flock to the sparkling resort town of Cannes during its film festival and the town’s couture boutiques and designer stores are within easy reach of the expansive beaches spread with sun loungers. Enjoy a stroll down the Promenade de la Croisette, taking in the stunning shore in the shade of palm and pine trees, or shop to your heart’s content along the Rue d’Antibes. The sovereign city state of Monaco is equally as exclusive, known for its casinos and luxury lifestyle, and quieter destinations such as the medieval village of Mougins offer a more tranquil atmosphere.

Synonymous with glitz and glamour, Cannes is the definitive resort of the French Riviera and sparkles with turquoise seas and golden sands. As well as designer boutiques, gleaming yachts and palatial hotels, this playground of the rich and famous is also home to a pretty harbour and a cluster of sublimely pretty islets just offshore.

The world’s most densely populated sovereign country, and one of the most expensive, this exclusive haunt is packed full of high-rise buildings, fancy yachts, exotic gardens and of course, the world-famous Monte Carlo casino. In stark contrast to the gleaming affluence, the south side of the port has a picturesque old town with a castle to explore, so that you can enjoy both the ancient and modern parts of this buzzing country.

Tiny Mougins spirals out from its hilltop position in a circular clutch of ancient buildings and medieval streets. Mougins has been seducing artists, actors and writers for decades, so despite its diminutive size it is known for its prestigious restaurants and wealth of art galleries.
