Overview

Crete is an island with an exquisite 1,000 kilometre-long coastline dotted with numerous coves, bays and peninsulas, which afford a multitude of soft, sandy beaches along the beautifully blue Mediterranean Sea. It’s among the finest in the Europe and has established Crete as an idyllic destination. Crete also has a historic importance in today’s world as the home of the Minoan civilization with its important archaeological finds at Knossos, Phaistos and Gortys. Being the fifth largest island in the Mediterranean with its diverse area of more than 8,000 square kilometres, there are many discoveries to be made on the captivating island. Agios Nikolaos sits upon the three hills, this arty, leisurely, sleepy and yet also bustling place provides the perfect base for your tour.

Itinerary

Day 1
We depart on our flight to Heraklion, Crete. Upon our arrival we will be met by our local representative and transferred to our base Agios Nikolaos staying at the 4* hotel Miramare. Dinner this evening will be served at the hotel.

Day 2
Today we can take the opportunity to relax at the hotel and take in the traditional surroundings of this stunning destination. Dinner to be served at the hotel.

Day 3
Today we will be greeted by our guide who will be taking us to Knossos, During this tour you will be taken back 4.000 years to the time of the oldest civilisation in Europe. The Minoan Palace of Knossos, centre of the Minoan Civilisation, will leave you breathless as you wonder over the technology and facilities of that period. The afternoon takes us to Heraklion for guided city centre walking tour taking in sights such as Saint Minas cathedral, the daily market in 1866 Street, the Saint Titus church, and the Liberty Square. We will also visit the Heraklion Archaeological museum viewing valuable items from the four Minoan palaces in Crete. Dinner to be served at the hotel.

Day 4
Today we have a day at leisure, providing to perfect opportunity stroll, relax and take in the sun along the beautiful eastern coast beaches. Dinner to be served at the hotel.

Day 5
Today our guide first takes us to Sitia, this small and pleasant coastal town built in a semicircle on the western side of the Bay of Sitia, is a peaceful Mediterranean port. The town was built in the late Minoan period and ceased to exist for two centuries (1651-1870). Our tour continues and when approaching the high bell tower of the Monastery Toplou, a guided tour through this medieval monastery will give us an insight to the surviving problems of the monks as well as the monastery’s architecture. Next stop is Vai, one of Greece’s best beaches and boasting the only natural palm-forest in Europe. Crossing the island from north to south we arrive in Lerapetra, the most southern town in Greece and Europe. It is built on the ancient city Hierpytna. Here we can take a leisurely walk in the vivid centre of the town along the coast or in the quiet picturesque narrow streets of “Kato Mera” the old part of the town. The character and the charm of the cosy old neighbourhood has been retained: looming yards, narrow paved streets, and churches. Dinner to be served at the hotel.

Day 6
With our last day of leisure, we can now explore our base of Agios Nikolaos, wonder around the traditional shops and taste the flavours that Crete offers. Dinner to be served at the hotel.

Day 7
Today our guide takes us to Bio Aroma, a vertically integrated unit around an area of herbs, with its own organic crops, a distillery for the production of essential oils and a workshop for 100% handmade herbal cosmetics. You can also explore the museum and botanical garden. We then head to the quiet fishing village of Elounda, from here we take the boat to Spinalonga Island a historical blend of multiple empires will be experienced during our walking tour of this fascinating Island, learning the struggles of empires past. Returning to Elounda your have free time to browse the shops or take a leisurely lunch. Dinner to be served at the hotel.

Day 8
After breakfast our guide will take us back to the airport for an undoubtedly solemn farewell to Crete.
