We depart on our flight to Asturias, Spain. Upon our arrival we will be met by our local representative and transferred to the Town of Llanes staying at the Hotel Don Paco. Dinner this evening will be served at the hotel.
Today our guide will start by taking us to the stunning village of Covadonga, within the Town of Cangas De Onis. Classed as the heart of the Asturias province, Covadonga’s Holy Cave holds the tomb of Pelayo, who in 722 won the Battle of Covadonga against the Muslim Moors, and later became the first King of Asturias. When here, make a wish and throw a coin into the beautiful lake that lye’s beneath the cave. The afternoon provides us free time to explore the town of Ribadesella, known for its prehistoric cave of Tito Bustillo, Ribadesella also offers history, beautiful scenery, nature, and impeccable food. Dinner this evening will be served at the hotel.
Today we will be greeted by our guide who will be taking us to the Cantabria province, During this tour we will visit three different towns each with their own points of interest. Palace of Sobrellano in Comillas is a stunning neo-gothic style building home to the richest man in Spain in the 19th centaury. In Santillana Del Mar we visit the Collegiate Church, tradition has it that it was home to the relics of Santa Juliana, Inside you can see medieval tombs and Romanesque reliefs from the 11th and 12th centuries. We continue our day by going even further back in time to the prehistoric cave of Altamira, the first cave in which prehistoric cave paintings had been discovered. Dinner this evening will be served at the hotel.
Today is at leisure, either enjoy the surroundings in Llanes or seize the opportunity to catch the local train to Santander. Dinner this evening will be served at the hotel.
Our guide today introduces us to Picos de Europa which translates to Peaks of Europe which forms part of the Cantabrian Mountains, here we take the journey to the top of the peaks via cable car enjoying the breath taking views that will surround us. Remaining in the Cantabria province for the day we continue our tour with a visit to Santo Toribio Monastery near to the town of Potes, The most significant element of this church is the Baroque chapel known as Lignum Crucis. Our day ends in San Vicente de la Barquera, one of the most picturesque sights on the Cantabrian coast, with its beaches, the old fishing village and the exceptional backdrop of the snow-capped mountains. Dinner this evening will be served at the hotel.
On our final excursion our guide takes us to Oviedo, the capital of Asturias. On route to this historic city we visit Santa Maria del Naranco, completed in 848 this world heritage site is steeped in history and a must see in Asturias. During our guided tour of Oviedo we have the pleasure to visit its Cathedral which displays an array of architectural styles, from Pre-Romanesque to Baroque, including Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance parts. Dinner this evening will be served at the hotel
After breakfast our guide will take us back to the airport as we bid farewell to Northern Spain.
