Join us on our visit of the striking landscapes of Wales. From the rolling hills and mountainous vistas of Snowdonia National Park to the elegant beauty of Portmeirion, Wales is a country that offers so much to those who appreciate the great outdoors. On this lovely 5 day tour we will experience some of the finest attractions that this beautiful country has to offer.
We depart our local area to make our way to Wales. We will call in at a National Trust property of choice (dependent on route). We then check into our hotel for a 4 night stay on a half board basis.
After breakfast we set off for Bodnant Garden which is considered one of the most beautiful gardens in the UK. The upper garden consists of the terraced gardens and informal lawns whereas the lower portion, known as “The Dell”, contains the wild garden. We continue to the charming town of Llandudno. Wales’s largest resort has retained its Victorian and Edwardian elegance and splendour despite its modern attractions. Situated between the Great and Little Ormes, Llandudno has two wonderful beaches and one can take the opportunity to travel up the Great Orme on the cable tramway (cost not included) for a spectacular bird’s eye view of the resort. Dinner at the hotel.
This morning we travel to Llanberis for the rail journey on the Snowdon Mountain Railway and to enjoy the Welsh views from the summit. We continue to the island of Anglesey for a visit to Plas Newydd, one of the UK’s finest 18th century mansions containing the largest selection of Rex Whistler works and a military museum. Garden features include the Australian arboretum, herbaceous beds and terraced gardens. Weather conditions permitting it would be possible to take a boat trip on the Menai Strait (cost not included). Dinner at the hotel.
After breakfast head to Portmeirion. Its founder, Sir Clough Williams-Ellis, from an early age wanted to become an architect and dreamt of building his ideal village on a romantic coastal site. He realised his dream with the remarkable Italianate village modelled after the beautiful villages along the Ligurian coast of Italy. Here we spend the day exploring and marvelling at the village’s beauty. Dinner at the hotel.
This morning we check out of our hotel and make our way back home with a visit to a National Trust property of choice. We will then resume our return journey to the original pick up points.
