Rouen and Honfleur

These Norman towns make an impression

Rouen, capital of Upper Normandy, is a once-prosperous market town on the banks of the Seine with a rich architectural heritage and a wonderfully restored medieval centre. Amongst the quaint timber-framed streets, which are so typical of the region, churches and museums abound. Whilst Rouen’s sense of history is palpable, especially thanks to its links with Joan of Arc, it is also a vibrant and modern town. The Museum of Fine Arts holds a collection stretching from the 15th century to the present, and is home to a large exhibition of Impressionist works – many of which were inspired by Normandy.

The quaint and colourful town of Honfleur was a favourite of Claude Monet and the Impressionists, and is known for its enchanting harbour. Explore the cobbled streets, admire the Norman architecture and revel in is rich heritage – but don’t forget to simply sit back and enjoy the picturesque views and fresh cuisine of this maritime gem on the Côte Fleurie.
